Subject: Beautiful Work, Dan...
Opened ALL Archive files for this date and start listening.
I'm an old Union Stagehand, I have ear.
A lot of recordings using a sheet of wax, a safety pin, and a rolled show program. i have a case full of the tapes I purchased.
OH!!!! WHAAAT!!! Holy f*ck, this recording is inside my mind before the first notes of "Cold Rain And Snow" even started.
That Gorramed mix is inside my head!
JEEEEE-BUSSS that's the most aggressively focused and tuned MATRIX I've yet heard. I stopped. Nine other files get the side-eye. This mix is life-changing.
Dan, I suspect this mix either came SUPER easy, or DAYS AND NIGHTS of figiting this right, but you boy howdy, you NAILED it. Bravo Zulu.
My skull is smoking proper!
Needless to say, this is the DOTD Feature for the day.
Set 1 - totally solid. Cassidy and Deal round out the set beautifully, as to be expected.
Set 2 - Foolish Heart starts things off in its usual, lovely fashion - pre-drums is odd (check the setlist) and there is no jamming of really any kind; drums > space takes us through a great back half. Wharf Rat is amazingly controlled and delicate. Jer can't muscle out the Revolution encore, but he often had trouble remembering the lyrics to that one.
Subject: best DL-able recording of this show
A close second it the Mattes/Miller, but it is too silent for my taste. Great warmth, but it needs a simple amplitude factor change.
The third best recording of this night is the Mendel one, but it has slightly too much audience noise IMO.
This recording is pretty solid, but somewhat too sharp. However, it's the one I downloaded. The pictures are a nice bonus as well.
4 stars for show, 4 for recording.
